Christian Gregory
BIO
Christian Gregory is an Emmy-nominated producer, author, entrepreneur, and the former executor of his father Dick Gregory’s estate. As co-founder of Dick Gregory Media, Inc., he preserves and promotes his father’s legacy of activism, health advocacy, and social justice. Based in Washington, DC, Dr. Gregory co-authored Seven Million Steps to introduce young readers to Dick Gregory’s extraordinary 1976 Food Run and its enduring message against hunger and inequality.
In April 1976, civil rights icon and comedian Dick Gregory embarked on a grueling 3,200-mile run from Los Angeles to New York City—covering an estimated 7 million steps over 1,011 hours—to raise awareness about poverty and food insecurity during America’s Bicentennial. Sustained only by fruit juices, vitamins, and water, he stopped in cities to speak out on injustice and rally support against hunger. This inspiring picture book, with lyrical text by award-winning author Derrick Barnes, personal insights from Dr. Christian Gregory (Dick Gregory’s son), and vibrant illustrations by Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award winner Frank Morrison, brings this true story to life for young readers. It challenges children: What would you do if you had a bold idea to stand up for what you believe in? Timely and powerful, the book highlights endurance, activism, and the ongoing fight for food justice.
