Nancy Devard

BIO

NANCY DEVARD is a former engineer whose second act is as an Illustrator.   After graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), Ms. Devard worked as a staff artist for Hallmark Cards, creating top selling cards for the Mahogany and Kids lines.  While working at Hallmark Cards, and roaming through their extensive reference collection of children’s books, Ms. Devard was re-introduced to artistry of children’s book illustration.   In 2008, Ms. Devard was awarded a Coretta Scott King Illustration Book Award Honor Award for the children’s book “The Secret Olivia Told Me.”  Currently, Ms. Devard works in a variety of styles, from traditional drawings, paintings and watercolors, to digital illustrations and silhouettes. BLAM! BLACK LIVES ALWAYS MATTERED!

The BLAM! (Black Lives Always Mattered) project is an upcoming graphic novel from the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection that presents the history and impact of fourteen Black Philadelphians. Made possible through a grant from @pewcenterarts, the book will be curated by @battlelinesrdrawn, narrated by @drsheenahoward, and feature artwork by @dylanbeedoodles @nilelivingston @michmasharts @jamar.nicholas and @akinseyeart. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
